Tattoo Artist Harrison Wellwood
Harrison Wellwood of Happy Apple Tattoo on finding the mental and physical space to create
Here’s a bit of a disclaimer on this one: We grew up with Harrison, so we really like him. Like, a lot a lot. We think he’s wonderful, and a damn good artist, so once we started hanging stuff over here at Joshua Tree Writers Retreat, we knew just where to start. We love his work, and we think you will too.
Can you give us your basic info?
Harrison Wellwood, tattooing out of Farmington, New Hampshire.
When did you start tattooing and why/how?
I finished apprenticing at the end of 2016. I started sweeping and mopping at tattoo shops in 2007 and fell in love with tattoos , the culture, and history behind them. As time passed, IÂ took on responsibilities until I had the pleasure of managing multiple shops around the country. After a long time loving that side of the shop, I was offered a chance to learn how to tattoo.
What are your favorite things/themes to paint/draw/tattoo?
My favorite themes are derived from folk art and American traditional tattoo designs.
Where do you get your inspiration?
I generally find my inspiration from the artists of many genres that paved the path. Also always pulling from a broad scope of music and writing that allows me to find a mental tone to try and replicate in my work.
Outside of the walls of the Joshua Tree Writers Retreat, where can we find you and your work?
You can find me in Farmington, NH at Happy Apple Tattoo. My work can be found on Instagram @wellwoodtattoo and the shops account @happyappletattoo.
